Republican Debate

McCain:  Too civil, yet intelligent, knowledgeable, and wise.  Unfortunately, not charismatic enough.

Romney:  Still a little stiff, but a quick study.  His values are solid, his experience is good, and he does have a type of charisma.

Thompson:  I wouldn't vote for him; for all his humorous asides, he impresses me as a grim kind of guy.  I think he waited too late to enter the field; his prime time was probably at least ten years ago or so.

Tancredo:  One issue candidate and though it is a crucial issue (illegal immigration), there are numerous other challenges that require attention and astuteness.  Also, no charisma.  I'm not saying that charisma is everything, but I think it's important to have an outgoingness to the people.

Paul:  A little out of step with modern times?  His devotion to the constitution and his tradition in conservatism is unquestioned.  Still, can we as a country be neutral  to starving masses, irresponsible governments, and crazed terrorists.  I don't think we can be the world's policeman, nor should we be.  Yet, there are times that we cannot ignore the failing body of the United Nations, the genocide of a people, the mindset of dictators who use religion as a way to carry out dangerous policies, and we can never, never forget 9/11.

Guiliani:  Connects with his audience better than the others.  Is passionate, confident, skilled in leadership, and yet, I cannot abide his stand on abortion and gay rights.

Hunter:  Very smart, very experienced, very devoted and loyal to the United States.  A younger Duncan Hunter would have shown a little more energy perhaps.  He lacks charisma, but is very impressive otherwise.  I like him.

Huckabee:  Friendly, affable, a man of principle, not afraid to profess his beliefs, and smart.  I just don't think he will meet the electability criteria.

I wish we could take the best each candidate has to offer and fashion a candidate that would just overwhelm the Clinton machine.
